Nov 03, 2012·Using the wrong lube in a car is a good way to screw up your car. Using a lousy lube is a good way to wear it out before its prime. I use synthetic everything: from engine oil, to oil lubricants, to bearing grease, to additives for trannies and power steering pumps, and so on. So, my first advice here is on using STP. Don’t.

Dec 20, 2011·Rust prevention may be improved on with some other synthetics gun lubes, but the difference again, is not that great in my experience. Any lube beats no lube, but some lubes will varnish more than others- which is a bigger problem, and some will freeze. For everyday use, and not taking the weapons use to extremes, motor oils work pretty good.
Aug 05, 2019·Then get the “Lubricate” and “Protect” part right by polishing a synthetic, light grease into the metal wear parts (slides, rails, etc) and the bore. Synthetic light grease like TW25B hangs around metal parts a lot longer than gun oil, and MIL-COMM grease …
Oct 23, 2014·2:1 ratio of synthetic motor oil to synthetic ATF is the best lube I’ve found. It’s the same thing as Lucas’s gun oil. 3/4 of a gallon of lube for a max of $25 will last nearly forever and it WORKS. That and some TW25 grease on the heavy load/wear points well get it done. Reply

Feb 17, 2015·1) Synthetic motor oil is a perfectly suitable gun lube. I don't use it because I don't want lung or skin exposure to the highly toxic benzines in it. 2) I don't use grease on any firearms anymore -- too many good gun oils out now that do the job as well or better, and don't gum up with detritus or when it's cold in a way that can affect function.

Mar 08, 2006·The gun oil that comes with the Outers kit does not appear to be very good at all. So, instead of paying $8 for a 4oz bottle of synthetic gun oil like Militec-1 I was thinking of purchasing a 6 dollar QUART of 100% Amsoil strictly for lubricating my guns. What do you all think about using a high quaulity 100% synthetic motor oil as gun lube?

Dec 22, 2015·Hey all, Just wondering if anyone uses standard synthetic motor oil as an all around, general use firearms lube? I don't do that much shooting, but I have used Mobil 1 before and I have read where others have used the same and still others use blends of synthetic motor oil and transmission fluid, STP and all kinds of concoctions.

Oct 06, 2017·The two main products I use is Tetra Gun Grease on what slides (such as rails on semi-autos) and Mobil One Synthetic 5W-30 on what pivots. I use Mobil One Synthetic 5W-30 exclusively on my 20 year old daily driver and have over 300,000 miles using it with no signs of the engine burning oil.
Mobil 1 synthetic makes a fantastic gun oil. (Caution: Geek Stuff.) Most gun oils are just regular machine/motor oils with off-the-shelf additive packs (just like those oils), packaged in tiny quantities with the word "gun" on the bottle and a 500% markup. After trying a bunch of specialty gun oils for years (mostly Rem Oil and Hoppes Elite), I ...
Feb 19, 2020·On the other hand, your gun has a large surface area and is regularly exposed to wind, rain, blood, sweat and, occasionally, tears. All this conspires to produce the greatest single danger to your gun — rust. Many general-purpose oils — and indeed some budget gun oil — are some variant of bearing oil, which has a very high slip coefficient.
